Library Basics: Using the library is easy!

You have a library card, now what? The next step is learning to utilize your library card by accessing ‘My Account’, placing holds and checking out and renewing materials.

What is ‘My Account’? Good question!

‘My Account’ gives you access to your library account details. To login enter your entire library card number (no spaces) and the six digit PIN number which is the last six digits of your library card number by default (no spaces). Once logged in, you can review your contact information, change your PIN number, create an EZ username and password, see your borrowed materials, renew materials, place a hold on items and cancel a hold.

Placing a Hold:

We may not have the old-fashioned card catalogs anymore, but you can still access the library’s collection by browsing online or by coming into the library. In fact, you can place a hold on materials in online and they will be waiting for you at the library for pick up! To place a hold, go to the library’s online catalog, find your materials and click ‘Place Hold’. You can then select a pick up location: The Public Library for Union County in Lewisburg, Herr Memorial Library in Mifflinburg or West End Library in Laurelton. Confirm your hold by selecting ‘Submit Hold’.

Check Out Materials and Renew:

Visit the library to checkout materials using your library card. Each material type has a defined loan period. For example most books and audiobooks can be checked out for two weeks and DVDs can be checked out for seven days. Some new materials have a shorter loan period so the material has a chance to be enjoyed by many library users. Renew materials by calling the library during regular business hours or online through ‘My Account’. Items can be renewed twice with a few exceptions. Items cannot be renewed if a hold is placed on the material.
