Parent Resources

Whether you are a soon-to-be, new or seasoned parent, sometimes you have questions. Look to your Union County libraries for some helpful parenting resources.

Each month, each library in Union County offers Discover storytime for babies up to five year old children. These free classes offer a fun, safe and educational learning environment while providing a great opportunity for both caregivers and children to bond, socialize and make new friends. Also, each month, find a variety of kids programming that touch on a multitude of topics with an emphasis on science, technology, engineering, art and math (S.T.E.A.M.). Be sure to sign up for the monthly eNewsletter for upcoming programs or view available programs using the online calendar.

Included during the year are specialty programs such as PlayK and A.B.C. Play with Me Parent/Child Workshop. PlayK focuses on using play to help preschoolers develop the skills needed to be successful in kindergarten – and later in life. PlayK provides materials and a curriculum of activities for six different play and learn centers and is aligned to Pennsylvania’s Learning Standards for Early Childhood. PlayK is offered at the Public Library for Union County starting August 1 at 2:00 pm.  A.B.C. Play with Me Parent/Child Workshop is for children ages 12 to 40 months along with their parents/caregivers. In addition to an uninterrupted hour of play, a resource professional from the community is present to talk with parents/caregivers about specific topics, which include literacy, nutrition, speech and language, music and movement, and child development. This 5 week program is offered twice a year and the next session starts September 6 at 10:00 am at the Public Library for Union County.

Aside from programming, here are some other great resources: Discover Packs which are themed backpacks with books, objects and toys; TumbleBooks are a collection of animated talking picture books and chapter books; BookFLIX help children in preK through third grade develop and practice essential reading skills; ReadyRosie features quick videos for families to find learning moments in everyday activities; Hoopla KidsMode provides movies and music provide family friendly entertainment; PowerKids has eResources for kids; the Parents Resource book collection covers everything from pregnancy, nursing, potty training, toddler behavior and so much more.
