Teens may sign up to participate in Teen Reading Lounge, an award-winning interactive book club designed exclusively for teens by the Pennsylvania Humanities Council. More than 1,000 teens and over 80 libraries across Pennsylvania have participated in Teen Reading Lounge since its launch in 2010.  Teens who register will receive free copies of discussion books including The Other Normals by Ned Vizzini, In Real Life by Cory Doctorow and Jen Wang, and Drama by Raina Telgemeier.  To sign up or for more information, please visit the Teen Reading Lounge page!

6/18 3:00 – 7:30 P.M. Scratch Art CDs – Create beautiful scratch creations using recycled CDs. Materials will be available all afternoon and evening, drop in whenever!

Children’s Programs

Tween Lunch Bunch

Tweens that have finished 3rd through the 5th grades are invited to join the Lunch Bunch!  The Lunch Bunch will be held on Tuesdays from 12 P.M. – 2 P.M. starting on June 12th and running through July 31st.  In this program, tweens will need to bring a lunch and will help plan fun activities and games for the summer!  Some of these activities include water days, Nerf days, games, and arts/crafts. (Drinks are provided)

6/28 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Cooking with Friends – Join this fun group and cook a dish from “Betty Crocker’s Lost Recipes” cookbook. Stop by the West End Library to choose a recipe, receive a copy of the recipe and prepare it for our gathering in June. Good conversation and good food! 6/7 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. Music & Coloring for Adults Lego Night – We will have a special night of music and coloring for adults which corresponds to the kids Lego Night.
6/10 6:00 – 7:00 P.M. Bev Conrad Fiddler Woman – Back in the old days, the Itinerant Fiddler brought much of the music and entertainment to an area. Beverley Conrad is a folk fiddler in the truest sense. Her knowledge of songs and their history and her skill with the fiddle delight her listeners. Come for an early evening performance in the Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village Community Room and see for yourself!
6/11 & 7/16 6:30 – 8:30 P.M. Vinyl Club with Jason Snyder – Are you a record expert looking for people to swap albums with or a newbie who has just discovered vinyl’s unique sound and appeal? Jason Snyder, local record buff, will lead the Vinyl Club in showcasing, playing and discussing song selections. Each person should bring along a song on vinyl to play and discuss.  All record hounds ages 16+ are welcome to hang out and chat about great records at the library.

Music and Body – Annelise Latini, certified instructor from Clear Sphere Yoga, will guide you through a series of restorative yoga poses to nourish and rejuvenate stressed bodies and minds, and discuss the benefits of music and yoga.Yoga Nidra (the yoga of sleep)and meditation will also be part of the practice. Perfect for tired bodies. No yoga experience necessary! (Wear comfortable clothes)
7/9 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Recycled Wind Chime Craft – Let’s create beautiful music together and save the planet. Is your junk drawer full of items you no longer know what to do with? Bring them along and we’ll share ideas to create a recycled wind chime. Craft supplies, as well as, donated recycled junk/treasures will be available to complete your craft.
7/14 11:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M. History of Italian Music – What was the most greatest achievement in musical history? Guy Graybill, author of five published books, will talk about his book, Bravo! Greatness of Italian Music, and make a case for the importance of Italian contributions to music history. His books will be available for purchase and signing. Refreshments will be provided.
7/26 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Birdsong – An important part of bird watching is actually listening! Lauri Shaffer, author of the blog Birding Pictures, will do a workshop on learning to identify bird by their song. Lauri will share her experience and pictures with participants. She has over 30 years of birding experience and is an avid photographer.
8/2 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Sheet Music Graffiti Craft – Create a beautiful piece of art using sheet music.
8/9 5:30 – 8:00 P.M. Musical Movie Night – Be our guest! Be our guest! It’s musical movie night at the library. Come see the live action musical Beauty and the Beast. Feel free to singalong, it is fun for the whole family!

Get the rhythm section going with Garage Band app to play drums or keyboard. Build a digital synthesizer with our little bits.
6/25 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Wii Rock Band Night – Libraries Rock! Calling all teens that want to be a rock star! Form your band and get to rocking! We will have Rock Band for the Wii with microphone and guitar. Snacks will be provided for performers and groupies.
7/30 2:00 – 6:00 P.M. Instrument Petting Zoo – Are you interested in learning to play an instrument? Are you just curious about what it is like to play a certain instrument? Join us for an Instrument Petting Zoo at the library! The professional staff of Robert M. Sides will be on hand to introduce and help explore the various instruments. Participants will be allowed to handle and play the instruments. All ages are welcome.
