In September the Union County Library System is teaming up
with WVIA Public Media to showcase a
unique free film series in celebration of Library Card Sign Up Month
and The Great American Read.

The film series begins with a showing of the Heroes episode from the PBS series The Great American Read on Wednesday, September 5 at 7:00 pm followed by a post-film discussion at the Campus Theatre. The Great American Read is an eight-part series that explores and celebrates the power of reading, told through the lens of America’s 100 best-loved novels (as chosen in a national survey). It investigates how and why writers create their fictional worlds, how we as readers are affected by these stories, and what these 100 different books have to say about our diverse nation and our shared human experience.  Episodes are Tuesday nights at 8 PM resuming September 11 on WVIA TV.  Vote for your favorite book now by visiting wvia.org/GreatAmericanRead.

In the event of rain the Sunday, September 9 showing of Incredibles 1 will be held at the Herr Memorial Library’s Community Room at 500 Market Street in Mifflinburg.

In addition to The Great American Read, September is Library Card Sign Up Month. This year, Disney’s the Incredibles movie characters are the Library Card Sign Up month honorary chairs, helping to promote the value of library cards and bringing attention to the many ways libraries and librarians transform lives and communities. The film series continues on Sunday, September 9 at 6:30 pm with a showing of Incredibles 1 held at the Mifflinburg Community Park. The series concludes with Ready Player One on Thursday, September 20 at 6:30 pm held in Hufnagle Park. Ready Player One is one of the novels you can vote for in The Great American Read.  Please note the film is rated PG-13.
